Chocolate, Chocolate Brown.....and pink!

I love the way this cake turned out. I love all the different ideas that come my way. Things I would have never thought of, things that all work! The dots on this cake as well as the wider ribbon are sage green. Then a smaller pink ribbon has been layered over the top. Take special note to the flowers on top. The brown scroll like thing, ya its real! I can't recall the name right now, but, what a fun idea and detail! The other thing that I just loved about this wedding was the location. It was at the Salt Lake Hardware Building. So cool! If you are looking for a great place for a reception, I think this is my new favorite! It was so fun!

Swirls and Twirls!

Who says that each layer needs to be the same? The sky is the limit you know. The picture I was given for a guide for this cake, the scrolls were actually done in brown. You might not be able to tell, but they are the same color as the table cloth, a deep dark purple. It was really pretty. You could choose any color out there and it would work.

Less in More!

I loved this cake. I can't believe how stunningly beautiful it was, yet so simple. The bride wanted to have real pearls around each layer, but don't be fooled. This is actually frosting. I then painted it with luster dust, a powder which gives it a pearl look. This dust comes in so many colors. I have actually dusted an entire cake with it before. It adds a fun sparkle. Another tip that can be taken from this cake, is that less is more. There is not a single whole flower here. She wanted it to look and feel like we had just dropped petals from the top and they fell where they may. It added the perfect touch!

So Many Choices!

There are so many fun things being done with cakes these days. Lets start with not having each layer perfectly matched up. Then each layer so fun and different. Then the choice of colors. Any color combination would work. This bride chose peach and yellow. Next weeks is hot pink and bright orange. I've even done black and lime green before. They alway turn out so fun. Also, take note to the fruit underneath the cake. I have done oranges and apples before. This time we did lemons. So fun! You could pretty much pick anything round and we could make it work! There is a secret to making it not roll off the table! Don't be nervous!
